Cheryl McNally, human resources director for the basedin Lyndhurst, wouldn’t say Thursday how many employees remaij at the Grandview plant, 14201 Bottds Road. McNally said in an e-mail that the layoffse began Dec. 14. Recent bankruptc filings by and , along with GM’s decisionh to stop production for the prompted Sika to make the majority of the Grandviewlayoffs permanent, she said. The Grandview plant openeed inMay 2000. The company said at the time thatthe 225,000-square-foog plant produced acoustical products for the automotive partz industry and sealants used in the constructiom of metal buildings.
The $12 million facility housed a work forceof 300, and company officialse said at the time that Sika would add anotherd 100 employees in the followiny 18 months. Sika employs more than 900 people in sevehmanufacturing plants, two research-and-development facilities, and salese and marketing offices throughout the country, according to the company’sx Web site. It is the largest companu of the Sika a global leader in specialty chemicalszfor construction, industrial and automotive markets. The Sika Groul is part of Sika AG, basedx in Baar, Switzerland.
