Parents are required to add five new immunizations for the upcomingb school year as a result ofstate mandates. Metro Healty anticipates these requirements will affect upto 50,00o students in the San Antonio Starting Aug. 1, K-12 student s will be required to take two doses of theVaricella vaccine. Students entering the 1-6 and 8-12 grades must continue to meet the current requirement. Entering 7th grade studentsa are required to take the one dose of the meningococcall vaccine this school Students entering the 7th grade must havethe diphtheria, acellular pertussis-containing vaccine if they’ve not had the booster within the last five Students entering grades 8 - 12 must have the boostert shot if they have not had one in the last 10 Kindergarten students statewide are now required to take two dosesx of hepatitis A vaccine.
Finally, K-12 students must take two dosesz of the measles vaccine and one dose each of the mumpsd andrubella vaccine. In addition to the expanded students need to be current on previouslyrequired “These additions to the childhood immunization schedule will bring us closerr in line with CDC recommendations and make Texas an even safeer environment for vaccine preventable diseases,” health director Fernando Guerraw says.
